Apple IPOD Touch 4 Dock / Power Port Replacement

Apple Ipod touch 4  some times doesn’t charge the battery or you are not able to connect it to iTunes.

There can be either Cable or Dock Port is the problem.

First try cable if that doesn’t work then  check the dock / Power Port of the Ipod if you see some kind of crack or pin bents . Then it is most likely a Dock / Power Port of your IPOD that is damaged.

How to Replace a Dock / Power Port ?

Before continue Reading I just want to tell you guys , I am not responsible for any damage or anything wrong happened to you or your things. I am sharing because I got 95% success rate in that. if you are not that expert just leave that to us by clicking HERE .

Skills Required:

1, Soldering skill is must.

2, Precision work Take your time .

3, Something like Opening an electronic product skill required.

4, ESD Protection is must because you are about to play with IC`S.

Components & Tools Required :

1, Soldering Iron

2, Flux, Solder, Wick.

3, Dock /Power Port Part for replacement click here to Buy from us.

4, Phillips Screw Driver, Tweezer, Cutter.

5, Hot Air Gun.

First Step:

Remove the upper glass screen gently . Open all screws . Pull the metal inner supporting sheet towards you from Bottom safely with taking care of Speaker glued with metal sheet, and the power/volume flex cable so that you won`t damage the pads/Tracks on the logic board. Just Extract the logic board out of whole shell while desoldering the battery ,speaker, volume/power flex cable.

The logic board will look like

Second step:

As you can see from the previous pic, there is a metal shielding on the dock/Power port which is soldered  with logic board at two points.

One at right and other at left corner with big joint.

you need to cut this metal shielding first like this

Now Remove the solder from one side (from two joints) like you are peeling a patato.

Now continue with peeling remove second left joint.(remove the solder)

Third Step:

After Removing the Metal shielding. Apply flux on whole the pins of dock connector and with soldering iron put a big blob of melting solder on the pins and revolve around on all pins so that the whole pins solder gets melted . like this:

Now, Gently apply some force to push back the connector while in revolving process.In few seconds you will able to extract the dock port out of logic board. like this:

Fourth Step:

Now its all-most done, take a long breath. just use a wick to wipe/ Remove the solder from the board.

so that you can able to see through the holes of the connector like this:

Fifth Step:

Now put a new part in the logic board, and first solder the two bigger metal shielding joints with adjustment of part. like this:

Final Step:

In Same way of removing pins , Apply sufficient flux and with a big blob soldering iron revolve through all pins in one go. not that fast so that solder enters into pin holes properly . Then its done. like this:

Now Testing time:

As we can see it is charging and connected with iTunes now. So we have successfully Replaced the dock/ Power port.
